The Joshua Metell 3on3 Classic (Formerly known as the Thread City 3on3) is named after a young man who was a Natchaug Elementary School teacher and life-long member of the Willimantic/ North Windham community. He was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on April 18, 2008. This young man, Joshua Metell, had seen a news report that was broadcast nationwide which named Willimantic "heroine town". Upset by this report, and determined to do something about it, he gathered support from friends, family and his church (pastored by his parents Matt and Ingrid Metell) and founded this annual basketball tournament. Joshua was dedicated to use this outreach to bring the community together and improve the town that he cared very much about. The Joshua Metell 3 on 3 Classic endeavors to continue Joshua's vision of being a contributing part of Willimantic and the surrounding areas.
